We’ve said it before, but it bears repeating: when you buy from most pet stores, you’re supporting puppy mills. That’s why it’s so important to consider other options, like visiting your local animal shelter, rescue organization, or pound.
The life of a puppy mill dog is no life at all.
But thankfully wonderful places like North Shore Animal League America exist. You may remember when we joined them on one of their many lifesaving missions back in June where they rescued more than 150 dogs. The amazing folks at North Shore work with shelters and organizations all around the country — and even internationally — to put animals in need into loving forever homes.
Just this past weekend, they saved more than 90 dogs from a puppy mill in the midwest. Corgis, Yorkies, Chihuahuas, poodles, Pomeranians, schnauzers, havanese mixes, and pugs were all pulled from terrible conditions — ranging from newborns to seniors.
When they first arrived at North Shore, each pup was assessed by a veterinarian, and of course…
They got what was probably their very first bath!
It makes a huge difference to their temperament, health, and adoptability!
Casper is an eight-week-old maltese.
Nyx is a six-month-old schnauzer mix.
Carrie is a long-haired Chihuahua and is one and a half years old.
Candy Cane is a six-year-old Pomeranian.
Draco is a six-month-old shih tzu.
AND, possibly the best for last, if you’d like to adopt one of these pint-sized cuties, they’ll be available at the shelter in Port Washington, NY, starting on Friday, October 30!
