Best Grandfather Ever Builds A Roller Coaster In His Back Yard

Imgur user BackyardCoasters posted a step-by-step, do-it-yourself guide to his "Negative G" roller coaster created for his grandchildren.

If there’s one thing I think we can all get behind right now, it’s that amusement parks are awesome.

I’ve always loved spending the day in the crowds with cotton candy and kettle corn, riding roller coasters all day long. I don’t think I ever could have imagined the possibility of having a roller coaster in my own backyard.

One grandfather designed and built a backyard coaster for his grandkids, along with a step-by-step guide on how to do it yourself. Time to get out those power tools!

First, he starts out with the track, creating a jig for the joints that will hold the coaster together.

Then tracks are secured to PVC rails that will fit together to create the coaster.

Coaster construction requires a lot of math. This grandfather is an ex-engineer, so he can make sure it’s safe to ride.

With tracks complete, it’s time to fit them together on top of a sturdy structure.

The supports underneath the bumps are triangles, which is one of the strongest shapes for building.

The end of the track extends far beyond where the ride will finish. This is so the car doesn’t have the opportunity for fly off the rails.

Finally, the track is complete! It looks like so much fun!

Here’s the view from the very start. With enough momentum, this will be an amazing ride.

Now it’s time to build the cart. A wheel system is attached to a frame designed to support the weight of a person.

Of course he wouldn’t use his grandkids as crash-test dummies, so these sandbags are along for the ride.

Finally, after it’s confirmed to be safe, the kiddos get to ride. Look how much fun he’s having!
