This Place Looks Like A Normal Nursing Home At First, But It’s So Amazing Inside

The Lantern of Chagrin Valley home was specifically designed to be beneficial to residents dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia.

Chances are that you’ve visited a loved one in a nursing home at some point in your life.

While these tight-knit communities for the elderly are meant to provide care for your loved ones during their later years, the truth is that they can also be kind of depressing.

Even though I’ve spent relatively little time in such facilities, I know that their dull, drab decor is anything but inviting. And if my mood is instantly effected by the aesthetic of these nursing homes, imagine what it’d be like to live in them.

The Lantern of Chagrin Valley Nursing Home in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, is hoping to change all that with its uplifting take on senior living.

From the outside, Lantern of Chagrin Valley appears to be a traditional nursing home.

But once inside, you’ll come to see that it’s more like an indoor gated community!

It is one of three breathtaking nursing facilities across the country that was designed specifically for Alzheimer’s and dementia patients.

A special fiber optic lighting system is used to simulate clouds in the sky, and it even brings out dazzling stars at night.

The floors of the home are designed to look like grass, and residents are treated to the sounds of birds chirping every morning.

CEO Jean Makesh states that every decor decision is directly tied to a therapeutic advantage. He is hopeful that such an environment will slow down the progression of Alzheimer’s and dementia in his residents.

Studies have shown that controlled environments such as this can alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression in senior citizens.

The nursing home also offers a variety of daily classes that help residents relearn basic skills that they may have forgotten.

More nursing homes across the country need to start investing in their residents like this. It’s amazing what people can accomplish when working for the greater good.
